Services
Pick the set point that sounds like your house
Four common calls, listed by how the house feels. Repair, replacement and maintenance for furnaces and air conditioners.
-
Furnace repair
The house is colder than the thermostat says
The furnace will not start, runs and blows cold air, or shuts off after a minute. Call before you try more than the basics in the questions below.
-
Heating service
The heat runs, but something is off
Banging or whistling, rooms that never warm up, a furnace that cycles on and off. A tune-up now is easier than a breakdown in January.
-
Furnace and AC replacement
The system has run its years
When repairs add up, ask for the repair price and the replacement price side by side and decide with both numbers in front of you.
-
Air conditioning repair and install
The air conditioner is not keeping up
Warm air from the vents, water around the indoor unit, or an outdoor unit that hums and does not start.
Before you call
Read these off your furnace door
Open the front panel of the furnace. There is a silver or white label with the model and serial number. Have those, and the answers below, when you call.
A model number and a plain description of what the furnace is doing make the first call shorter.

Questions
Furnace and AC questions, answered plainly
My furnace is blowing cold air. What should I check first?
Confirm the thermostat is set to heat and the fan is on auto, then check that the filter is not clogged. If the air is still cold, call (763) 355-6600.
I smell gas. What do I do?
Leave the house, call 911 from outside, and do not flip switches or use a phone inside. Call the shop after the gas utility says the home is safe.
My carbon monoxide alarm is going off.
Get everyone outside into fresh air and call 911. Do not go back in until the fire department clears the house.
How often should a furnace and an air conditioner be serviced?
The usual advice is once a year: the furnace in early fall, the air conditioner in late spring.
Should I repair or replace an older system?
Age, the cost of the repair, and how many times it has failed all matter. Ask for the repair number and the replacement number side by side.
